Cestria Chair to step down

Paul Tinnion, Chair of Cestria Community Housing will be stepping down from his position after serving nearly six years as Chair of the Board and the previous Shadow Board.

Paul, 65, who lives in Whickham, Gateshead was instrumental in the transfer of homes from Chester-le-Street District Council to Cestria Community Housing which now owns and manages the former council homes.

The Chester-le-Street social landlord, which was officially launched on February 4, 2008 has delivered and achieved a considerable amount under the guidance and direction of Paul and his Board.

Some of the key achievements since transfer include major improvement works to over 4,000 properties in the area, investment in local community facilities and a range of projects that have been set up to improve the lives of thousands of tenants of all ages.

Last month, another major milestone was achieved when work started on Cestria’s first ever affordable housing new build project in Sacriston.

Paul, who is a former Gateshead housing committee chairman and Board member of Home Housing Association, will continue to serve on Cestria’s Board and in his spare time, he likes to play golf and watch Newcastle United.

Paul commented: “I am very proud of our achievements since transfer. Inevitably, a new housing association faced many difficult challenges but we have overcome them all.

Chief Executive, Paul Fiddaman said: “Paul has been with us from day one. He saw us through the transfer process and has supported us in our development since then. He has been a very important part of all that we have achieved and he will be a very big miss.”

David Butler has been approved as the successor to Paul Tinnion. David will shadow Paul over the coming months until a formal appointment has been made at Cestria’s Annual General Meeting in September.

David Butler (62) is the former Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Housing until his retirement in 2008 and joins the Association with over forty years experience in housing.
