Yahoo hacker attack highlights online vulnerability

Hackers have downloaded account information of more than 400,000 Yahoo users, as the company work to fix the breach.

Hacking group D33D has claimed responsibility for the attack, that has exposed personal details of email users.

Yahoo said the attack occurred on July 11, and are now in the process of notifying the companies whose users’ accounts were affected.

Chris Papa, Managing Director at Qubic, said, “The latest breach of data at Yahoo shows the value being placed on data in today’s digital economy and highlights the importance of security, regardless of where your data is stored. The means through which hackers are circumventing the defences of even the largest firms signifies that security has to continue to become much more sophisticated.

“We have worked extensively with firms where data is particularly sensitive. Sectors such as financial services are wholly reliant on the protection of their data and we have always sought to provide a tailored solution which may include a hybrid cloud approach to protect data in the most suitable way.

“Companies who outsource their IT to a specialist firm must understand that the rollout of an IT service should be an end-to-end one that encompasses stringent data security and disaster recovery to ensure that they protect the all-important data they have.”
