Teesside University receive £1m for employee further education

Teesside University have secured a £1 million fund from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to buttress their work with employers in providing staff with higher education.

HEFCE award cash to institutions that are committed to engagement with local businesses and enterprise communities on a wide scale.

An initiative to focus on ‘workforce development’ is part of Teesside’s scheme to allow people already in employment to pursue further study.

Teesside has received the highest possible amount from HEFCE’s Transition Fund, which will enable the University to expand business operations and grow with the business needs of the area.

The fund will also allow the University to extend their support to small and medium sized enterprises.

Businesses can benefit from Teesside’s schemes, which cover a vast range of subjects including consultancy and knowledge transfer partnerships, as well as firms having the opportunity to take advantage of flexible Knowledge Exchange Internships.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Graham Henderson CBE DL said: “Our successful application was very much linked to the success of the University’s strategy, working over the past three years, to deliver University provision to over 8,000 employees through workforce development programmes tailored directly to the needs of individual employers to improve business performance. In order to make this happen, we have developed a highly responsive infrastructure which positions us well to sustain this activity in the future.

“As a result, Teesside University is now a leading light in its partnerships with business.”
