North East Business Duo Hit Amazon #1 Spot
Two North-East professionals have topped the Amazon bestseller list with their contributions to a social media book.
Adam Parker from Gosforth, Newcastle, and Stephen Waddington from Holystone, near Rothbury in Northumberland, have contributed chapters to ‘Share This: The Social Media Handbook for PR Professionals’. Stephen, who is also co-author with Steve Earl of ‘Brand Anarchy’, the bestseller published by Bloomsbury in March, oversaw the project and acted as editor.
Share This, which hit the number one spot on the popular site for PR books and Sales and Marketing books on pre-sales alone, carries an endorsement from famous Twitter user Lord Sugar on the front cover. The book has proved so popular in the UK that Wiley also published in the US last week.
Authored by more than 20 of theUK’s leading practitioners in the field of digital communications and public relations, the book is from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) and published in print and digital formats by Wiley.
Share This includes insights and practical guidance on how professional communicators can utilise social media and networks and platforms to engage directly in conversation with audiences. The book is split into 26 chapters over eight topic areas, covering the media and public relations industry, planning, social networks, online media relations, monitoring and measurement, skills, industry change and the future of the industry.
Adam and Stephen will talk about the book in a session organised by the CIPR North-East on 29 August at The Town Wall Pub.
Adam Parker,CEO, Realwire said: _“_Share This seeks to pull together a comprehensive guide to best practice for PR and communications professionals in a social media driven world. My chapter, ‘Media Relations Modernised’ for example, looks at how it is essential to put Twitter at the heart of your media relations activities as news not only breaks on Twitter, but the majority of journalists also actively, and sometimes robustly, discuss and comment on the news agenda within this community.“
Stephen Waddington, chairman of Newcastle-headquartered Admiral PR & Marketing said: “Share This is itself a social effort by the CIPR Social Media Panel and friends. The book was conceived and written over a three-month period by practitioners representing a cross-section of public, private and voluntary sector expertise. The project was managed via a series of Google Documents with contributors reviewing and commenting on each other’s work. We’ve used many of the techniques that the book itself addresses.”
‘Share This’ includes contributions from Katy Howell, Simon Sanders, Andrew Smith, Helen Nowicka, Gemma Griffiths, Becky McMichael, Robin Wilson, Alex Lacey, Matt Appleby, Dan Tyte, Stephen Waddington, Stuart Bruce, Rob Brown, Russell Goldsmith, Adam Parker, Julio Romo, Philip Sheldrake, Richard Bagnall, Daljit Bhurji, Richard Bailey, Rachel Miller, Mark Pack, and Simon Collister.
Jane Wilson,CEOof the CIPR said: “Share This is one of the most exciting publications ever produced by the CIPR. The biggest names in digital communications and public relations have come together to create a complete guide on every aspect of social media and this book is a testimony to what can be achieved when working together. It is the complete guide for PRs on how best to approach and master the use of social media.”
