Newcastle’s Friar House receives £5m hotel renovation
A Newcastle Grade II listed building will receive a £5m facelift in the development of an luxury apartment-hotel.
Roomzzz Aparthotel UK have confirmed the restoration of Friar House in Newcastle city centre as a part of their franchise strategy to expand in the UK’s major cities, which includes 11 additional apartments in Manchester.
Newcastle’s historic Georgian house, built in the eighteenth century, will be converted into 44 high-end apartment suites in a two stage development, with the first rooms available in November this year.
Head of the aparthotel company, Mark Walton, put his support behind the major cities in the UK.
He said: “Newcastle City is an incredibly exciting location for the brand - we are looking forward to being immersed in the rich vibrancy that the City offers residents and tourists alike. We are proud to be a part of Newcastle’s hospitable future.
“We are bringing an influx of new jobs to the City and are looking forward to … sharing Newcastle’s famed warmth and hospitality through the Aparthotel and our choice of team to all of our guests.”
Roomzzz Aparthotel UK plan to preserve some of the historic features of the building, such as a bank vault, the main staircase, and a cast iron range from the servants quarters when it was a working household.
The firm’s further development of the North West site in Manchester will receive a £500,000 investment.
