Bdaily Diary with R&B Group

Bdaily caught up with R&B Group for the first in a series of diary entries as they prepare to set off on an autumn season around the country. We chatted to Antony Crerar, R&B Group’s Development Director, to find out what the company had been up to in August.

Antony told Bdaily about the preparations the events and production company has been making and what the summer brought for R&B.

He said: “In the summer, our big focus was how to deliver events efficiently and effectively. We have more events booked for the next few months than ever before, to the extent that we are actually recruiting. This is the first time in years we’ve had the confidence to do that, so it’s really exciting.”

Keeping in touch with their small base of 30 staff is key to R&B, and Antony explained how they look after their employees and foster new talent from young people.

“It is extremely important to us that everyone on the team is doing well and they’re looked after. We do 6 monthly reviews where we do personal development one-on-ones. At a time when we’re about to be really busy, we need to make sure our staff are meeting targets and feel happy in their roles.”

“Young people are key in the business too, and we’ve had some fantastic interns in over the summer who’ve made fantastic contributions.”

Antony told us what was coming up for the company and how they were moving forward.

“R&B have more and more contracts around the country, particularly in Manchester and Bristol, and the Midlands as well. We have a televised conference coming up for the Royal Institute of British Architect’s Stirling Prize, and lots of conferences and dinners for over 1000 people.”

“One exciting project we’re involved in is a musical at Tantallon Castle in Scotland, and we’ll be providing all the outdoor lighting and projection mapping for that event. We pioneered the technology for projection mapping, which basically brings a building to life by making it look like the walls are being built up or down with spectacular images of ghosts, fire and all sorts.”

“R&B are really happy to break into this market after we were at the forefront of developing the technology.”

Bdaily will catch up again with R&B in a fortnight to hear about the latest events they’ve been part of up and down the country.
