B-Skill builds careers on South Tyneside

Construction training delivered by B-Skill Ltd as part of a Foundation Learning programme by TCV Employment & Training Services has resulted in a hat trick of young people taking their first step on the career ladder.

Having completed the six-eight week construction course at B-Skill’s South Shields base, Harry Thompson, Dean Smith and Gary Harding have all graduated with a Certificate in Basic Construction Skills and are now moving into the world of work.

Harry who is 16 and from Leam Lane is joining the Royal Navy, while Dean, aged 17 from Felling has secured an apprenticeship with Rolls Royce. Eighteen year old Gary from Whitburn is joining the Army.

Harry said: “The training with B-Skill has been great and I’ve developed lots of new skills, particularly in bricklaying. The TCV programme has really helped me grow in confidence and to decide what I want to do next with the experience I have gained.”

Jude Davies, interim regional manager at B-Skill, said: “Foundation Learning is perfect for those who are not in education, training or employment but want to achieve new qualifications and develop a raft of new skills. Harry, Dean and Gary have all worked extremely hard and deserve the success they’ve achieved.

“TCV’s programme is excellent and we are very happy to work alongside the North East team providing support on the construction side.

“In terms of our youth training, we are now seeing an 80% achievement rate from our courses, and this is testament to the fact we are dedicated to helping young people into employment by supplying high quality courses, as well as lots of motivation and advice.”
