BT Global appoints new chief executive
BT Global Services have announced the appointment of its new CEO, Luis Alvarez, who has been in the company for 12 years.
After joining the international firm in 1999 as director of multimedia and internet services, Mr Alvarez most recently worked as the president of BT Global Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America.
Jeff Kelly, who will be replaced by Mr Alvarez as chief executive of the communications company, will leave for the U.S. after spending three years in the role.
Mr Kelly headed the company during a period of great success for BT, while the company created a foothold in the global market as a provider of managed networked IT services to leading world corporations and governments around the world.
He will be taking the senior executive post for BT’s U.S arm, after guiding the company through a period of strong financial performance.
A statement from BT said that during Mr Kelly’s time as chief executive, “the business has substantially improved … and its risk profile and delivery capabilities have been transformed.”
Luis Alvarez commented on his new role: “I am passionate about BT Global Services and see great opportunities for us in the marketplace.
“I have a deep understanding of what our customers want and I also know what we can do to build an even better and more efficient business.
“The global economy is going through a period of rapid change and the BT Global Services team is well placed to support companies through that period of uncertainty and opportunity.
“We have a strong business in the UK, mature operations in key economies and are expanding our presence in the fastest growing parts of the world. These are strong foundations that we will build on.”
Ian Livingston, chief executive BT Group said: “Jeff has transformed BT Global Services and I would like to thank him for his contribution.
“BT Global Services is in a much better place than it was when Jeff joined us and I am delighted that he is staying on to advise us in his home market.”
