Tips For Success - Women In Business

Question from a recent success survey: I’m a woman with low self-esteem and confidence, which is affecting my success as a leader. What tips can you give me to improve this and to be more assertive?

This is a big question as there might be all sorts of blocks to progressing and improving in these areas (and why it can be beneficial to receive coaching.) However, provided you’re willing and able to move forward and to take positive action then I suggest the following:

1.Consider your life and career achievements to date.

What are you proud of? What made you feel good? Reconnect with those feelings and remind yourself that if you’ve overcome obstacles and/or risen to challenges before, you can do so again!

2.Think about the situations and people you struggle with.

When are you not assertive? When do you lack confidence? What are you doing or who are you with when you don’t feel good about yourself?

Is there a pattern?

3.Consider what you already know about self-confidence, self- esteem and assertiveness.

What 1 thing can you do today that you know will help you improve in these areas?

Can you do it? If not, keep asking yourself “what would be the first step in doing that?” until you get something that you can do. Now go & do it!

4.Consider what you can do to help yourself in these areas.

Who can you get help or support from? How will you remember to do the things you want to do?

So, there you have my top tips for getting going. Take small steps, you can even take tiny steps, it doesn’t matter as long as you just get yourself started and moving forward!

It’s the forward momentum and the consistent actions, however small, that will start to make the difference.
