Virgin Media creates 200 jobs at Birmingham HQ
Virgin Media will create up to 200 jobs at its Birmingham base in Sheldon. Sir Richard Branson’s communications arm will welcome 200 new apprentices to its new training centre, Eagle Court, which is also home to Virgin Media’s engineering and technology lab.
Apprentices will be offered a variety of roles, including technician jobs, planning and network engineering roles, and the option to work around the UK.
Young people will be specifically be targeted for the scheme, as Virgin hopes to offer a step up onto the employment ladder.
Maurice Daw, executive director of access at Virgin Media, said: “We are very proud of our apprentice programme and have had huge success to date and with the digital media industry growing at such a rapid rate, we hope these new jobs will positively contribute to the region and wider UK economy.”
Apprentices will be trained in digital home entertainment and telecoms at Virgin’s Midlands headquarters, and will receive a nationally-recognised qualification in ICT on completion of the course.
The company’s new training site, where the apprentices will be taken on, has already tutored around 700 young people and offered career training.
Virgin are currently in the process of rolling out improved broadband infrastructure to the UK, which was announced back in February.
