The airport question

As the Davies Commission is set to investigate airport capacity, we’re told that a report will be delivered by the end of next year.

Surely this is counterproductive, as the very aim of the report is to provide insight into how extra runway capacity can be achieved so as to compete with the countries we are supposed to be slipping behind.

There does seem to be a certain degree of misinformation however. Take for instance Boris’ quip on the BBC Radio 4’s Today programme last week: “Can I tell you in the next nine years how many runways they are going to build in China? They are going to build 52. How many are we going to build in the UK? None at all.” It doesn’t seem a particularly logical comparison, does it?
