FES International moves into new premises

Oil and gas engineering firm FES International is preparing to move into new state of the art premises as part of a multimillion pound investment and expansion programme that is already creating new jobs in the company.

Flexible Engineered Solutions, which specialises in manufacturing fluid transfer systems for subsea oil and gas extraction, will move its manufacturing headquarters from the Blyth Riverside Business Park to its new, 35,000sq ft home in North Seaton Industrial Estate, five miles north of the current location. The move, on the back of a number of big deals in the past two years, is expected to be complete in the New Year.

FES’s managing director Rob Anderson said: “It’s a huge step forwards for us – massive. The new workshop will give us the space and facilities we need to keep growing and servicing the industry. It’s probably the biggest investment we’ve made in the last 12 or 15 years of the business.”

Since the purchase on the new premises was signed at the end of October, Mr Anderson said the company had already made three new appointments. Recruitment was set to continue, he said, as the firm looked for experienced project managers and design engineers to help deliver the jobs in its growing order book.

Mr Anderson added: “Delivering high quality heavy engineering within the oil and gas industry’s tight timeframes is the challenge and we’ve always risen to it. In three months we’ll be in our new premises which will be fully kitted out with brand new machinery and we’re looking forward to maintaining our momentum.

“We’re a proud North East company and that means it’s particularly gratifying to commit to a new property and new jobs here,” said Mr Anderson.

In August this year, the company reported strong growth and more than doubled its turnover on the previous year, to £15m. To help capture new business, the company has well-established satellite offices in oil-producing hotspots including Brazil and Singapore.

FES International, established in 1997, estimates that 90 per cent of its products are made within a 35 mile radius of Blyth and employs around 300 people in the supply chain. Its products, including diverless bend stiffener connectors (DBSCs) and fluid swivels are used by some of the world’s biggest oil producers, including Shell and Total.
