Fairy Jobmother Launches Service Extension at Westfield Farm

Coast & Country has welcomed TV’s Fairy Jobmother, Hayley Taylor, back to Westfield Farm to launch a scheme that allows people to easily access vital information on jobs and training.

This is Hayley’s first visit since she became Patron of the community resource centre at Dormanstown.

One of the largest regeneration and housing companies in the North East, Coast & Country has renovated historic farm buildings at Dormanstown, in Redcar and Cleveland, to create a range of much-needed opportunities and facilities.

The latest addition to Westfield Farm amenities is a National Careers Service (NCS) Information Point, which is aimed at increasing people’s accessibility to details about jobs and training opportunities.

The Information Point has a touch screen that links to the National Careers Service web channel as well as a range of other careers and job search-related websites.

There also is an integral telephone line that dials directly into the National Careers Service Helpline.

Hayley said: “The support and services Westfield Farm is providing to local residents are second-to-none and the addition of this superb information point will further enhance what it has on offer.

“It is important people wanting to find out about jobs and training can do so as easily as possible and this information point does just that.”

“This is my first visit to Westfield Farm since I became its Patron and it is great to see that it is continuing to evolve and progress.”

Iain Sim, Coast & Country Chief Executive, said: “Westfield Farm is a fantastic resource that is already starting to make its presence felt in the wider community.

“We are continually looking at ways of expanding and improving what Westfield Farm has to offer to help people improve their skills, find out about training courses and pinpoint potential job opportunities.

“It is testament to what we are aiming to achieve with Westfield Farm that the National Careers Service has chosen it as a location for one of its Information Points.”

Jonny Wright, of the National Careers Service, said: “Westfield Farm’s emphasis on pointing people in the right direction when it comes to employment and training makes it an ideal base for one of our Information Points.

“The aim is for this easy to use piece of equipment to act as a starting point to help people find job vacancies, careers advice or training courses.”

Hayley agreed to an invitation from Coast & Country to become Westfield Farm Patron after officially opening it earlier this year as she was so impressed by the facility.

Hayley’s no nonsense attitude led to her hosting her own Channel 4 programme ‘The Fairy Jobmother’, where she helps and motivates unemployed people to find work.

She recently was named Yorkshire Woman of Achievement in Education 2012, at an annual event organised by the Sue Ryder Foundation, for the work she has done with the unemployed.

Westfield Farm provides training, meeting and conference facilities, community gardens and allotments, a community resource and training centre, and a base from which Coast & Country delivers its ‘Journey into Work’ programme.

It also is base for the Working Communities Team and Redcar & Cleveland Voluntary Development Agency.

The Working Communities Team comprises nine Jobcentre Plus staff working alongside Coast & Country and Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s Routes to Employment Team to take the service out to communities

The future development of Westfield Farm comprises a local residents’ food co-op growing and selling produce and the launch of a catering social enterprise.
