The North East BIC win national award
The North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) have been awarded Business Incubation Champion in the UK.
The BIC were presented with the UKBI Incubation Champion award in Lincoln this week at the annual award ceremony.
Based in Sunderland the BIC is a business centre with a difference, working in partnership with both private and public sector organisations in order to achieve its mission to support the development of an innovative and enterprising culture in the North East.
The BIC first opened its doors in 1994 with just 22 units and has now grown in line with the needs of the region, helping to create over 6,000 jobs region wide.
The BIC has also helped over 2,500 business to start up in the Tyne and Wear area and has achieved a survival rate which outstrips the national average, with more that 75 per cent of businesses continuing to trade in their third year.
Chief Executive, Paul McEldon said: “Supporting incubation is vital for regional growth and building a strong economy.
“It was with great honour receiving national recognition for our hard work in providing the right environment for start up businesses and entrepreneurs to flourish.
“The only centre of its kind in the region, we are proud to say that our range of businesses services on offer has increased year on year and adapts to market demand.”
