Biochemica boys get growing for Movember!

Male staff, clients and family members of Teesside-based water treatment specialist, Biochemica UK Ltd have raised in excess of £1,500, after pledging their upper lips to charity campaign, Movember.

Showing their support for Movember for the first time as ‘Team Bio Tash,’ the men have been competing to grow the best ‘Mo’ in a bid to raise a target of £1,000 for prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.

Movember is a cause close to the hearts of a number of Biochemica staff - especially Managing Director Dave Ruddy. His father, Stephen Ruddy was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2005 and although the disease has proven treatable, it cannot be cured.

Despite Stephen undergoing various treatments over the years - including radiotherapy, medication and hormone injections, his tumour has grown and spread to his spine, leaving him in a lot of pain.

Commenting, Dave Ruddy, Managing Director at Biochemica said: “Movember is a fantastic and fun way to raise awareness of prostate and testicular cancer and we have been delighted to show our support, particularly with the issue of men’s health being so close to home. My dad was on our team and I even managed to convince some of our clients to get involved by either taking part or making a donation.

“I am very proud of our moustachioed men having met and succeeded our £1,000 fundraising goal, which will go towards essential research into these terrible, life-changing conditions.”

Dave added: “We look forward to getting involved in Movember again next year and hope that other local companies will not only follow suit, but remember that prostate and testicular cancer is a serious issue that should be constantly addressed and not just as part of this light-hearted annual campaign.”
