Alderson Dodds migrates to ?The Cloud?

Northumberland-based law firm; Alderson Dodds has moved to the world of Cloud Computing with the help of Washington-based ICT provider Knowledge I.T. Their entire computer infrastructure has been re-located to one of Knowledge’s regional data centres and is now fully managed and accessed over the Internet, or ‘The Cloud’.

Paul Dunn, IT Partner for Alderson Dodds explains the move: “We were running a relatively compact IT network based on a Microsoft Small Business infrastructure. Even for a small network, it took a lot of time to manage and keep in good shape. All business data was located in our main offices and we were aware that security was becoming more of an issue for the business, so it made perfect sense for us to move onto a Cloud Computing platform housed in a secure data centre environment”.

The solution involved virtualising their desktop and server estate, ensuring that Alderson Dodds no longer have the worry of future software updates, all of which are now done remotely by Knowledge I.T. All data is now housed in one of Knowledge I.T’s North-East based, privately-owned data centres, which offers the full data-security benefits that come with an ISO 27001 accredited facility.

A high-speed point-to-point leased line connects Alderson Dodds’ office to the data centre network ensuring fast, resilient delivery of applications and data. It is a stable, scalable computing resource that can grow in line with the business.

Knowledge I.T Account Manager; Derek Power said: “In addition to the obvious security benefits, Alderson Dodds will never again have to undergo a major system update. Their IT is now delivered via five laptops & twenty-nine thin-client terminals, which use around a fifth of the electricity of regular PC’s and cost about half the price. The Cloud Computing solution not only delivers an excellent service, it also realises cost savings all-round.”

Cloud Computing Services are typically paid via a monthly ‘utility style’ payment, which is even more compelling in these difficult economic times where a large outlay of capital on a new computer network is hard to justify.

Knowledge I.T is an ICT Solution provider for business with locations in the North East and Yorkshire specialising in Cloud Computing, Virtualisation and Data Centre Services.
