Deadline for DigitalCity Fellowships approaches
In the past year an anti-extremist filmmaker, several games studios, a digital musician and a sports film company have all been launched thanks to DigitalCity Fellowships.
Now the next generation of digital entrepreneurs is being encouraged to apply for fellowships.
The deadline is noon on January 21 to apply for the fellowships which have launched nearly 200 companies in the region.
Anthony Roderick of Landslide Studios took a DigitalCity Fellowship in 2010 and has since grown the games development company to include a multi-award-winning staff.
He said: “DigitalCity Innovation at Teesside University supported me through a DigitalCity Fellowship and I have used their industry placement scheme to recruit talented individuals to work for Landslide.
“I would recommend anyone looking to start up their own digital venture to seek support through the fellowships.
“Digital is a growth industry in this region in no small part due to the work of DigitalCity Innovation and the support it gives businesses from the initial start-up to expansion.”
Cheryl Evans, project manager for DCI, said: “We’re looking for individual people and teams who have an original digital project idea, who live in the North East of England and are graduates.
“DigitalCity Fellowships are renowned for being the launch pad of some of the most successful digital companies in the region.
“Everyone from those with engineering, science and technology backgrounds to those with art or gaming skills can apply and launch even more new companies in the North East.”
The fellowship offers a business support grant of £4,000 to be used for living expenses while business ideas are developed over a six month period. DCI has a pool of industry experts who mentor fellows. Each project has a maximum of four days of mentoring support available, as well as the opportunity to attend workshops, seminars and networking events.
DigitalCity are happy to discuss any business ideas with potential applicants. For more information potential applicants should get in touch via http://www.digitalcityfellowships.org/contact or by calling 01642 384334.
