Leading Newcastle environmental firm looking to recruit

Leading Newcastle environmental firm, SLR Consulting, which has an office on Newcastle’s Quayside, has accelerated a recruitment drive which could see over 20 strategic staff hires within its UK operations over the next year.

Opportunities also exist for entry-level placements to senior appointments in a broad range of technical disciplines.

SLR’s 14-strong Newcastle team of environmental specialists is currently involved in projects ranging from developing a waste management strategy on the island of St Helena in the mid-Atlantic, to working closely with National Grid for the North West Coast Connections Project, one of the largest schemes National Grid has undertaken since the transmission system was developed in the 1950s.

In addition, SLR’s Newcastle based design team have been working with Oak Regeneration on the master planning for the redevelopment of a number of large opencast coal sites in South Wales and have also been employed by UK Coal to carry out feasibitly studies for a number of smaller sites in the north of England.

Other local clients include: Balfour Beatty, Sir Robert McAlpine, Premier Waste Management, SITA, Northumbria University, Durham University and Durham County Council.

As well as seeking to attract additional UK industry experts, SLR is also looking for consultants for possible placement into roles in its overseas operations in Canada, United States, Southern Africa and Australia in support of its global expansion plans.

The recruitment drive follows the announcement earlier in the year of the company’s continued growth and strong performance and the securing of a further £15million in acquisition finance.

“Our recruitment approach for our Newcastle office is based on ensuring we continue to meet the evolving needs of the market. So, despite the on-going challenges of the economy, we are investing to enhance our offering and strategic hires remain an important part of this plan,” said Will Higson, Principal and Newcastle Office Manager.

SLR, which employs 320 consultants in the UK, provides multi-disciplinary technical advice and support on a wide range of strategic and site-specific issues.

SLR benefits from a high level of repeat business, with over 50 per cent of revenue coming from clients for whom the company has worked for five years or more.
