Biochemica celebrates its young talent at NEPIC Awards

Billingham based water treatment company, Biochemica UK Ltd is celebrating success after one its Account Managers was crowned a Young Achiever at the prestigious NEPIC (North East Process Industry) Annual Awards Dinner 2013.

The glittering event, which took place at Hardwick Hall in Sedgefield, saw the cream of the crop of the North East’s process industry come together to recognise achievements across the sector. Amongst the winners, Biochemica’s Jenny Thompson was honoured with the highly acclaimed Redhall Engineering Young Achiever Award within the Fine & Speciality Chemicals category.

The award recognises the best and brightest already working within the process industry, and at just 19, Jenny has started to progress her career at Biochemica while studying for a degree in Chemistry at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Jenny, from Yarm, was offered the position of Account Manager – becoming Biochemica’s youngest ever, after undertaking work experience with the company. During this time, Jenny helped service one of Teesside’s most dominant chemical companies and impressed Biochemica bosses with her abilities and clear ambition.

Today, Jenny solely manages her own account and supports others by providing the extensive range of specialist water treatment services that Biochemica, the region’s largest independently owned water management company, is known for.

With responsibilities also including establishing and nurturing client relationships, analysing and interpreting water system sampling results, providing professional advice, compiling technical reports and overseeing orders, Jenny is a trusted, valued team player at Biochemica able to work independently using her own gifted initiative.

As a young female working in the highly male dominated process industry, Jenny had to quickly learn how to communicate her authority and convince clients of her recommendations. She is now a highly respected member of the team, called upon by her clients and colleagues alike for advice and the technical skill required to deliver Biochemica’s bespoke solutions.

It is this hard work and commitment to her role, coupled with her dedication to her education and overall enthusiasm that helped Jenny to scoop the Young Achiever Award, which included a prize of £1,000.

Dave Ruddy, Managing Director at Biochemica said: “We are delighted to see Jenny recognised for her achievements outside of the business, and at such an early point in her career. She is a perfect example of the high calibre of our staff and really demonstrates the opportunities we provide for career progression. The skills and knowledge that Jenny has developed since coming on board can only continue to grow and we look forward to seeing her reach her career goals at Biochemica.

“We hope that other young people - and in particular young women, looking for industrial water treatment jobs or routes into the water treatment and process industry see Jenny, and in turn Biochemica, as an ambassador for the sector.”
