ABS Policy Network 2013 Announced

ABS POLICY NETWORK 2013 - SUPPORTED BY THE RT HON DAVID WILLETTS MP

Theme: Is it possible to balance student demands with business needs?

The ABS are delighted to announce the second round of the Policy Networks for 2013, focusing on the theme: Is it possible to balance student demands with business needs?

David Willetts, the Minister for Universities and Science said:

“UK business schools are a vital part of the higher education sector and contribute a huge amount to our economic performance, with over a quarter of a million students studying a business or management related subject. The ABS Policy Network meetings offer a fantastic opportunity for the business school community to shape the future, and I support the venture wholeheartedly.”

We will be hosting seven sessions between February and June 2013 covering a range of issues central to the future of the business schools in the UK and globally. Each session will be attended by roughly 20 participants drawn from within business schools and other key sector stakeholders. The sessions will be kicked off by a short ‘thought provoking’ presentation – one from a business school representative and one from someone outside of the sector. As mentioned previously, you would be welcome to join as a member of the network as well as attending these seven events (there will also be two events held by our colleagues in Australia at Murdoch University and the University of Wollongong).

There will then be an open discussion of the issues raised. All of the meetings are held under Chatham House rules – but a summary of the discussion will be published as a direct output of the event.

We will also be collecting the presentations (alongside contributions from other key sector figures and external stakeholders) into a collection of thought pieces that we will be publishing and discussing at the three party conferences in the autumn.

Four of the meetings will run from 12.30-2.30 pm at Bloomberg Headquarters, whilst each of the devolved nations will have its own meeting, kindly hosted by the University of Glamorgan, Heriot Watt University and Queen’s University Belfast. Details of the sessions, content and lead speakers can be found *here*

I do hope that you will be able to attend one or all of these events and also register an interest in joining the network going forward.

We would like to thank the following for their kind support:

  • Bloomberg
  • FT
  • Hobsons; and
  • UPP
