Give a little love to your business
Health, Wealth, Love and Happiness. Why you should give a little love to your business this Valentines Day.
Now we are not suggesting that you buy your business a bunch of roses this Valentine’s Day, but there is a lot to be said for how far a little appreciation can go.
And by appreciation we don’t necessarily mean a candle lit dinner in the canteen…
Every organisation is the sum of its people and research has shown that investing in their development and wellbeing can have a direct impact on your organisational performance. In other words, ‘give a little love and it all comes back to you.’
So why not take the excuse of Valentine’s Day to explore what you can do to promote health, wealth, love and happiness in your organisation?
• Health – Having a health and wellbeing programme in place can support a culture of happy and healthy employees, in turn providing improved productivity, attendance and motivation.
Much broader than encouraging healthy eating and physical fitness, health and wellbeing also covers issues such as stress, security and morale – which when tackled can help to reduce absence and recruitment costs too. What can we say, ‘love is the cure.’
• Wealth – Developing your people and investing in their skills can offer your organisation the opportunity to achieve a real return on investment in terms of efficiencies and profitability.
As a business improvement framework, Investors in People can really help you to focus in on this potential. And don’t just take our word for it – Cranfield School of Management found that adopting Investors in People sets up a chain of impact ending in better financial performance. Well, ‘let’s get it on!’
• Love – Whether it is developing clear vision and leadership, building supportive management, delivering effective communication or exploring recognition and reward, there is usually a number of activities that can contribute to building and maintaining employee engagement.
In simple terms, get your employee engagement right and there are a myriad of benefits that can come your way – reaching from improved staff retention and sickness to improved bottom line benefits and customer satisfaction. ‘Let’s stay together.’
• Happiness – Culture has a key part to play in how well your organisation takes on challenges, explores new opportunities and how you are perceived both internally and externally. At the end of the day, an unsupportive environment won’t help you to get the best out of your people or spark motivation and innovation.
COI research also indicates that Investors in People embeds a strong change culture, encouraging employees to embrace new challenges and secure competitive advantage - something that is going to be key as we all navigate the current environment. Well you ‘don’t want to miss a thing’ do you?
So the moral of this story is that Valentines Day isn’t the only excuse you need to see the benefits of giving something back to your people. Show your appreciation all year round and don’t deny ‘the power of love’ (ok, we’ve taken this love song theme too far now…).
