Coder's Academy to promote employment in software sector

A pilot academy aimed at exposing people to employment in software development is being launched as part of Sunderland’s Software City.

Coder’s Academy is focussed on growing the software sector in the North East by training more people in coding.

The academy will assess members of the public to see whether they are predisposed to learn code quickly.

Anyone can apply to the process, regardless of age to maximise the amount of people exposed to the employment possibilities of the software industry.

Training at the academy is split into four stages, first applicants complete an online assessment then attend an awareness day which will introduce them to the software sector.

Trainees then complete an eight week training course, at around 15 hours a week, where they will learn core development skills.

The best of the trainees will then be taken on for a year by Coder’s Academy to develop their skills and work on business projects.

Coder’s Academy Ltd will work in the development of Minimal Viable Products for a range of new web and app concepts.

As a social project, the academy will generate its own income through undertaking projects, the scheme has been led by Sunderland Software City.

Sunderland Software City is an initiative which is aimed at growing the software industry in the North East.

The academy project was developed in conjunction with leading companies in the software industry who will continue to input the running of Coder’s Academy.
