Middlesbrough College win gold Investors In People Award

Middlesbrough College’s ‘world class’ people development has earned them an Investment in People Gold Award.

An IIP assessor told the College Leadership Team that the gold standard represented

“world class people management and development” and said the results were the best he had ever seen.

The college met 183 out of a possible 196 indicators during the assessment, applicants need 165 to earn the accolade.

Pat Congerton, Middlesbrough College Workforce Development and Equalities Manager, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to receive the accolade.

“We’ve had Investors in People for several years and decided to go for gold in September last year.

“When the assessor was delivering our results he said he had never before come across an organisation that met so many indicators, he said it was ‘a remarkable achievement and the best he had seen’.”

An IIP assessor examined the College’s strategies and policies and interviewed more than 100 staff before awarding the gold standard.

Middlesbrough College’s people management, staff development, training and the work-life balance of staff were also assessed.

The Investors In People Gold Award is the highest standard acheiveable and the Middlesbrough College team is now intent on making further improvements over the next two years to achieve the remaining 13 indicators.

The award comes in the wake of three other gold awards given to the college, the North East Better Health At Work Gold Award, the Equality North East Equality Standard Gold Award and Food 4 Health Gold Award.

Mike Hopkins, Principal and Chief Executive, said: “We continually reflect and review what the College offers, challenging ourselves to work in new ways, testing our own capability or capacity.

“The clutch of gold awards is validation of the commitment to quality that exists within the College, we have an inspirational team.”
