Biochemica fighting fit with health and safety standard
Teesside-based water treatment specialist Biochemica UK Ltd has once again achieved the OHSAS 18001:2007 standard, demonstrating the company’s commitment to maintaining high levels of health and safety.
OHSAS 18001 is the most internationally recognised occupational health and safety management systems standard. The award helps organisations across all manner of industries to develop and uphold demonstrably sound health and safety practices.
Following a rigorous audit process and review of the company’s business activities, Biochemica – the North East’s largest independent water management firm, was certified with the standard for the second consecutive year.
Andrea Linton-Lennon, Quality Manager at Biochemica was instrumental in ensuring OHSAS 18001 requirements were successfully met. She said: “Given the nature of Biochemica’s business as a water treatment provider and chemical supplier, health and safety is constantly at the forefront of all our operations.
“We take the management of our especially developed Health and Safety Policy very seriously and are committed to continuous improvement to the benefit of our employees, customers and suppliers.”
On top of regular health and safety training for its entire staff, Biochemica recently introduced its ‘7 Golden Rules of Safety’ – an internal set of bespoke health and safety procedures to ensure that all employees remain aware of key risks.
Andrea added: “Renewing our OHSAS 18001 certification is a great accomplishment for Biochemica, and aligned with our ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards - as well as our CHAS (Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme) accreditation, it truly demonstrates how dedicated we are in meeting, and indeed exceeding, only the highest of standards.”
