Newcastle Law Society elects new president

Newcastle Law Society has elected DWF partner, Helen Ager as its newest president.

Helen, who has been a committee member for the past three years is a partner at business law firm DWF.

The Newcastle upon Tyne Law Society promotes professional expertise, and has been providing support to solicitors for over 180 years.

Having previously taken on a number of roles to support Newcastle Law society, under her newest role of president Helen will represent members, chair regional meetings and host Newcastle Law Society events.

Helen was born and went to school in Newcastle and, after working in Nottingham and London, returned to the North East, where she has worked since.

She said: “It is an honour to be tasked with such a prestigious role, and to represent the Newcastle upon Tyne Law Society.

“Having worked for a medium-sized firm such as Crutes, and now a national firm like DWF, I’ve had insight into the work and issues that both regional and national firms face and how these impact the national legal agenda, and affect solicitors.

“The Law Society offers a platform for the profession to raise any issues and discuss matters that are currently affecting the legal sector.

“It provides a forum for lawyers to share their experiences and examples of best practice.

“We are currently experiencing a difficult economic climate and it can be tough for firms to keep pace with the changes and maintain a competitive offering.

“Part of our role is to look at how the industry needs to evolve in order to deal with these challenges so that firms can adapt to the issues that their clients face, and stay in the strongest possible position in these testing times.”

Verity Dobbie, a partner at Swinburne Snowball & Jackson, in Consett, was elected Vice President at the same meeting.
