Tyneside firm grows to ddd professional negligence team

Rapidly-growing Tyneside law firm TLW Solicitors has unveiled plans to open a new professional negligence team with the appointment of a new lawyer.

Professional negligence specialist Rachel Burns has joined TLW, based on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate in North Tyneside, with the remit to launch and develop the new team.

The firm, known for its personal injury and clinical negligence services, has identified professional negligence as a growth market following recent high-profile revelations about the mis-selling of interest rate swap deals to small and medium-sized businesses.

Rachel arrives from a position as an in-house lawyer at an international recruitment firm, and previously as a professional negligence specialist at a leading high street bank, having studied law at Northumbria University. Prior to that, she worked in London representing the interests of small businesses at the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).

She says her unique blend of experience will stand her in good stead as she helps small businesses to reclaim money that is rightfully theirs.

“I am delighted to join TLW Solicitors – it’s a growing North East firm with a great reputation, and launching a new department is an exciting opportunity for me,” she added.

“Alongside growing the new department, my job will be to represent businesses who have been left short-changed as a result of professionals acting in a negligent way. The problem is surprisingly widespread but firms frequently have no knowledge of where to turn for assistance.

“My experience at the BCC has left me with an acute understanding of the needs of small businesses – nobody is more aware of the challenges they are facing in the current climate.

“Margins are being squeezed tighter than ever, especially for SMEs, and it is absolutely crucial that they are given the right advice by professionals offering advice and consultation.”

Peter McKenna, partner at TLW Solicitors, said: “We have identified professional negligence as a growth market in the North East and beyond, and with that in mind we were delighted to be able to add Rachel to our team.

“TLW has ambitious growth plans and, following the successful launch of our new Clinical Negligence department last year, the Professional Negligence team will enable us to offer another outstanding service to our clients.”
