Yorkshire design expert creates ultimate chef?s kitchen
A leading Yorkshire living space and design expert was called in when a top food supplier required the ultimate kitchen for its brand-new purpose built facility in Lancashire.
Michael Wright, owner of Harrogate’s Michael Wright Kitchens and Interiors, was approached by Clitheroe-based Total Foodservice and asked to create a commercial kitchen that would be suitable to prepare food and show product demonstrations, while creating a relaxed informal environment for clients.
Said Michael: “I usually focus on creating living spaces and kitchens for homeowners, but the opportunity to design something for the commercial market place was a great chance for me to diversify.”
Total Foodservice moved to a more permanent, purpose built 36,000 sq ft facility in Clitheroe in 2011 and decided that it was the perfect opportunity to incorporate a multi-purpose kitchen that could be used by company chefs to prepare food for clients – many of whom are chefs themselves at top restaurants and hotels.
In completing the project, Michael was able to strike the right balance to build the perfect kitchen using a combination of stainless steel appliances and accessories mixed with natural oak units from the ‘Unika’ range by Italian designer Effeti Cucine.
Sympathetically chosen for appearance and practicality, the units feature an aluminium frame incorporating the handle, creating a streamlined, handless exterior. Chunky 70mm worktops from Pietra Cardosa were chosen and provide a practical yet contemporary look.
Hardwearing appliances were required to ensure reliability while cooking. The kitchen features two ovens and a warmer drawer from Miele and a heavy duty industrial fat fryer – one of the essential pieces of kit needed in the Total Foodservice kitchen, along with a durable extractor fan from Wolf.
Total Foodservice managing director Simon Howarth said: “This project was even more crucial because our clients know what’s what in the kitchen. We needed to create a really professional kitchen – but without the commercial feel. Creating something that customers would be able to come and enjoy and feel relaxed in was the ultimate brief.”
