Cartwright create 40 apprenticeships in Cheshire
Cheshire-based manufacturer Cartwright has opened up 40 spaces for new apprentices as the business expands.
The firm, which makes vehicle bodies and trailers, has launched a recruitment drive to find 16-19 year olds who will be taken on to their training programme in partnership with Stockport College.
The two-year programme will end with a Level 2 Engineering apprenticeship, after which the students will be able to continue to Level 3 and ultimately HND level.
Cartwright worked alongside Stockport College to develop course materials, which the firm said made it wholly relevant to their business.
During the apprenticeship the students will develop skills in welding, hydraulic, electrical and air fitting and testing, general fitting and assembly, machine operation, finishing and pre-delivery.
The programmes will start in August with a four week induction, followed by 23 months of four days a week at Cartwright and one day at Stockport College.
John Cartwright, joint managing director, commented: “At Cartwright we rely on the skills of our workforce and as a result our staff are the lifeblood of our organisation.
“We are delighted at the quality of the first year’s intake. It has been a highly successful programme with the apprentices already making a valuable contribution to the manufacturing process.
“We want to continue to nurture young people and provide them with the necessary skills to pursue a career in manufacturing.”
