Square One Law secures lease for charity
The property team at Newcastle law firm Square One Law has acted for a local charity to help it set up a fund raising café and training centre in Eldon Square.
The Junction 42 charity, which provides support and training for the long-term unemployed in Newcastle, was offered premises to lease in the prestigious city centre shopping centre.
Joanne O’Connor of the charity, said: “This is an ideal location for us right in the city centre, but we had to act quickly. We wanted to use this space to open up a café where we could offer on the job training and qualifications to those who want to work but may have struggled to obtain the training and support they needed elsewhere.”
“The café, which we have named Chapter One, represents a new start for many of our employees. If successful we hope to open up further Chapters in the future.”
Simon Priestley, Head of the Property Team at Square One Law, said: “The lease was for a short period, so the charity was keen to maximise that.
“We then negotiated the terms of the lease, identified and dealt with all of the regulatory and legal issues which arose in connection with the business’ charitable status and we were able to get them into the premises within three weeks.”
Joanne added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us because as a charity we would never usually be able to afford such a prime location. We’re very grateful to Simon Priestley and Jenny Atkin at Square One Law for all their help and support and the speed in which they managed to get us up and running.”
