Brinkburn Priory and Aydon Castle Concerts a Success
The 2013 programme of summer music at Brinkburn Priory and Aydon Castle is underway and thousands of people have been to see the concerts already.
The season continues until the end of September and all events, supported by UBS, at both Brinkburn Priory and Aydon Castle, are free after admission to the properties. Concerts start at 2pm and are under cover.
This weekend’s events feature The Alnwick Pipers play at Brinkburn Priory Manor House on Saturday 15th June. The Alnwick Pipers’ Society is a group of people who are enthusiastic about the traditional music of Northumberland and the Borders. On Sunday 16th June, the Ashington and District Male Voice Choir echo the sound of the Augestinian monks who sang for several hundred years at Brinkburn.
At Aydon Castle on Saturday 15th June, the Belford Singers, a small chamber choir who have selected a programme of music which reflects the Tudor period. The programme includes sacred music for church and court together with songs and madrigals performed at court and in the houses of the great and wealthy.
Event organiser Tony Walton commented “We are pleased that attendance at the concerts has increased with each performance and are looking forward to welcoming more visitors. The performances make for an excellent day out with family and friends to bring a picnic along and listen to different types of music, all with a link to Northumberland.”
The English Heritage venues are famous in Northumberland with Brinkburn Priory dating back to the 12th century and set by the River Coquet with parts of the monastic buildings incorporated into the manor house.
Aydon Castle is a 13th century manor house which is completely intact and one of the finest and most unaltered examples of an English manor house. Aydon Castle is set in secluded Northumberland woodland.
