Double shortlist success at Ridings Shopping Centre

The Ridings Shopping Centre in Wakefield has been shortlisted in two categories at the national SCEPTRE Awards.

Victoria Clapham has been shortlisted for the Marketing Manager of the Year Award for Medium Centres and Created in Yorkshire, the co-operative craft store, has been shortlisted for Short Term Retailer of the Year.

The SCEPTRE awards are hosted annually by Shopping Centre Magazine and recognise the best practice and the best people in the shopping centre industry.

Putting the spotlight on management teams, retailers and suppliers that demonstrate real excellence, this year has seen a record number of entries in the fifteen categories.

Created in Yorkshire opened in August last year and has gone from strength to strength. Operating as a cooperative with 30 local crafters, the store only stocks handcrafted products ranging from jewellery to clothing, woodwork, art and upcyled vintage pieces.

The retailer has trebled its floor space since opening and has now started holding events including poetry readings and knitting sessions to add to its appeal. The store recently won Home and Garden Retailer of the Year award in the Wakefield Retail Awards.

Victoria has been shortlisted for the award for the second year running. Under her leadership, The Ridings’ marketing strategy has continued to expand and develop resulting in a great deal of interest and higher footfall to the centre.

Barbara Winston, centre manager, commented: “We’re really excited that we have both a member of staff and a retailer shortlisted for these prestigious awards. Everyone here at The Ridings is very proud of both Victoria and ‘Created in Yorkshire’. We wish them both the best of luck for on the night.”
