North East Businesses to Showcase at WDW
COMPANIES from across the North East still have time to showcase their job opportunities with the workforce of the future at a major event being held in the region next month.
Work Discovery Week - Sunderland 2013 is a pioneering five day project taking place between July 1 and 5 which will feature a range of activities from open days at schools and in businesses to practical workshops and demonstrations.
The week will begin with a major careers fair at the Stadium of Light – and businesses from across the region still have time to sign up and take a stand.
Although the attendees at the event will be from Sunderland schools, the careers fair is open to companies from across the region, offering them the chance to meet hundreds of young people and to highlight their job opportunities.
WDW is being supported by some of the North East’s top companies, including SAFC, Nissan, Grundfos, Sunderland University, Sunderland College, Arriva, The National Apprenticeship Service, The Bridges Shopping Centre and Gentoo.
The week has been created by Sunderland’s Economic Masterplan – Business:Schools Task Group who recognised the need to forge stronger links between companies across the region and school pupils on Wearside.
Since launching the event there has been an overwhelmingly positive reaction from both schools and companies across the North East, with more than 1000 young people expected to be involved during the week.
“The Careers Fair offers companies from across the region the chance to really engage with the workforce of the future and to highlight to them the opportunities that exist in the area,” said Gary Hutchinson, Commercial Director of SAFC and co-chair of the task group.
“We’ve already had a fantastic response but we hope more companies from across the North East will now come on board and take up this unique opportunity.”
Councillor Paul Watson, Leader of Sunderland City Council, is also encouraging businesses from across the region to support the event,
“This is a superb opportunity for companies to paint a positive picture to young people that the North East can offer them a great number of career prospects,” he said.
“I would hope that as many businesses as possible will embrace this opportunity.”
Options are still available to sponsor other key aspects of the event including taking a stand at the exhibition running during the week in The Bridges.
Booking forms for the careers fair are available by emailing info@sortedpr.com or by calling 0191 265 6111.
