Barnsley company creates biking enthusiast web site
The nation’s love of cycling has proved good news for a South Yorkshire company which has created a new website for biking enthusiasts.
Crazyhorse Creative, based at Barnsley Digital Media Centre, is behind the branding and web design of Hammer Sports new website, which provides specialist training and bikes for keen cyclists.
There’s been a surge in people getting on their bikes since the Olympics, when medal winners such as Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Bradley Wiggins and Victoria Pendleton inspired the nation.
There was a 14.7 per cent jump in sales of bikes following London 2012 while the Government’s Ride to Work scheme saw a 30% increase in uptake after the Games.
And the passion for cycling is set to continue well into 2014 when the world’s greatest cycle race the Tour de France arrives in Yorkshire – the first time it has visited the north of England.
The race will start on July 5 and 6 and will take cyclists through Leeds and Sheffield, among other cities in the region.
Creating such a complex website threw up a few challenges for Crazyhorse Creative. Director Andy Brown said: “This is an innovative new platform and we’ve really enjoyed working on such an energetic site.
“Behind the scenes, we worked on a complex ‘shopping basket’ as customers may be paying for a number of items, varying from a cycling holiday to a custom-built bike, so we needed to create a basket able to accommodate different items.
“The site can also log people’s times when they take part in a Sportive event, which are organised cycling events.”
