Two Yorkshire firms make national business awards shortlist

Two private businesses from Yorkshire have made this year’s short-list for the third annual Private Business Awards, sponsored by PwC and in association with HSBC Private Bank.

Sheffield Forgemasters and AES Engineering have both been put through to the national awards whittled down from 700 nominations across the UK.

Sheffield Forgemasters is shortlisted for both Employer of the Year as well as Graham Honeyman shortlisted for CEO of the Year. The heavy engineering firm specialises in the production of large bespoke steel castings and forgings.

Rotherham-based AES Engineering has been shortlisted for Private Business of the Year. It is one of the major specialists in the design and manufacture of mechanical seals and support systems.

Its significant growth has enabled the company, part of international firm AES SEAL, to become a major international player in the mechanical seals industry.

Arif Ahmad, office senior partner for PwC Leeds said: “The high number of nominations for this year demonstrates the quality of Sheffield Forgemasters and AES Engineering in making the shortlist, with both companies helping the region to grow and be successful.

“Overall it is another strong year for UK manufacturing with the shortlist celebrating the achievements of over 15 manufacturers and it is great to have two really strong regional contenders competing on a national stage.”

Dr Martens, Euromonitor International, Logson Group and Walker Shortbread are also up for Private Business of the Year – won last year by JCB.

The winners of the Private Business Awards will be announced at a dinner to be held at The Guildhall, London on Wednesday 11 September 2013.
