Construction firm wins £7m technology centre contract

A construction firm which has a regional office in the North East has won a £7m contract to build a new technology centre on Teesside.

Scunthorpe-based Clugston Construction, which has an office in Hebburn, has secured the contract to construct Tracerco’s new facility in Billingham, which will include bespoke research and testing facilities for the company’s subsea products and services.

Clugston says the contract will provide employment opportunities across Clugston’s entire supply chain, while providing work for more than 100 construction people during the delivery.

The company also made “several appointments” at its North East office in Hebburn.

Steve Waggett, construction regional manager for Clugston, said: “We look forward to securing more contracts in the North East region and to further enhance our reputation.

“This important project demonstrates the diverse capabilities we have to offer customers in the North East.

“We have the expertise to work on complex civil engineering projects through to high quality industrial and commercial projects.”

The project for Tracerco is supported by the Let’s Grow Fund, a £30m Regional Growth Fund programme providing grant support for capital investment and R&D projects creating or safeguarding jobs in the North East of England.

The Clugston Group recently posted an excellent set of accounts. Figures for the year 2012-13 show turnover increased by 30 percent to £108.7m from £83.8m in the previous year and a threefold increase in pre-tax profit from £2.0m to £6.1m.
