Drinking premium profits
Diageo announced net sales growth of 5% this morning. The drinks giant has been busy snapping up premium drinks brands in countries such as China and Brazil.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, chief executive Ivan Menezes (himself from the emerging Indian market) told presenters that “people are drinking better.”
The newly installed boss also said North America was a real engine of growth for the firm, due to its young population and it’s changing multicultural nature.
It chimes with what we recently heard from wine firm boss, Gary Doom, who said sales of champagne at his Bordeaux Index firm were getting better and better. Are these tales indicators the international market for premium goods is still ripe for the picking?
