Screwfix Newcastle toasts success
The Screwfix store in Newcastle is celebrating one of its most successful quarters ever with sales up 10% year-on-year.
Store manager Steve Christian has recruited two new members of staff to support the store’s growth and is currently on the look out for a new service assistant as the recruitment drive continues.
There have also been several promotions with Nick Livingstone, who has worked at the store for two years, promoted to supervisor earlier this year and supervisor Laura Ward promoted to assistant manager in July, her second promotion in just over two years.
Laura comments: “We have a great team here in Newcastle, all working together to deliver the best possible service. We might have a plumber in one minute needing supplies for an emergency job, and a decorator the next stocking up on the essentials. I really enjoy the variety of the job and meeting all the different customers that come through our doors each day.”
Store manager Steve Christian believes the increase in customers and sales is partly due to Screwfix’s reputation as a leading supplier to the trade, specifically for power tools at competitive prices.
Steve adds: “There are new products coming out all the time and we make sure we stock the widest range possible, all at trade prices. In particular, lithium ion technology is revolutionising the power tools market and we have seen increasing sales of our Dewalt and Makita drills recently.
“We also have a number of services designed to make the buying process easier for builders, such as Click & Collect, which enables customers to choose and buy their items online before picking them up from the store as quickly as 5 minutes later!”
The success of Screwfix’s store in Newcastle mirrors the company’s positive employment and growth figures. More than 700 new jobs have been created by Screwfix in the last 12 months as a result of the brand’s rapid national store expansion programme.
