Sheffield’s Bestobell supplies valves to fastest ever LNG ferry
Sheffield-based Bestobell Valves has supplied valves to what has become the fastest LNG (liquefied natural gas) fuelled ferry ever built.
The cryogenic valve manufacturer produced and supplied 70 globe, check and thermal relief valves to Czech Republic cryogenic storage vessels specialist Chart Ferox, manufacturer of the fuel system for the ferry.
The vessel supplied, known as ‘Francisco’ has reached a record-breaking speed for a ferry of 66 miles per hour.
This makes it the fastest ship worldwide with the ability to carry 1,000 passengers and 150 cars.
The design of the Francisco, which has a wave piercing catamaran design, combined with its lightweight strong aluminium construction, has contributed to it achieving these high speeds.
Mark Henley, managing director of President Engineering Group, Bestobell Valves’ parent company, said: “It is fantastic to hear that a vessel we have supplied with cryogenic valves has made such an amazing achievement.
“We are continually pushing the boundaries in valve design and technology as part of strategy to produce world class products.”
Bestobell Valves is a world-leader in the manufacture of LNG cryogenic valves, with over 50 years industrial gas experience and 15 years’ successfully supplying to LNG marine markets.
