Newcastle recruiters whip youngsters into shape with bootcamp
North East recruiters Zenith People have launched a ‘Rising Star Bootcamp’ to combat youth unemployment and help the region’s youngsters obtain apprenticeships.
Led by managing director Angela Anderson, alongside Lisa Waller and Justine Shepherd, the firm will take bright youngsters through an intensive week-long programme, made possible by funding from South Tyneside Council.
The idea arose from Zenith’s own experiences in recruiting apprentices, where they found the market to be disjointed.
Angela said: “I felt that, if Zenith was having problems recruiting young people and we’re a recruitment agency, then other employers must also be finding it hard.
“I also realised that there was a need within young people for someone to help them connect with good employment opportunities and then help them to secure them. Hence the concept of the Rising Star Bootcamp was born.”
The Bootcamp aims to break down barriers for young people looking to get apprenticeships, such as lack of awareness of schemes and lack of interview technique.
Angela said: “We want to develop a support mechanism which offers young people an alternative to the established routes to employment. We want to excite young people about the options that are available and help them make the right choices about the future career and then offer ‘real world’ advice on how they can achieve their ambitions.
“We also want to excite employers about the benefits of bringing young people into their organisations and encourage them to include the recruitment of young people in their succession plans and recruitment strategy.
“I’d like to see our Rising StarBootcamp become part of a much broader offering whereby we’re offering a full ‘young persons’ recruitment service to young people and employers.
“I’d like to think we expand this beyond South Tyneside and help young people across the region find exciting career opportunities!”
