Jobs at risk as Wirral components site faces closure
Up to sixty staff at a Wirral aircraft components firm could lose their jobs as its US owner has announced closure plans.
Teledyne CML Group is currently reviewing the precision machining and fabrication operations at the Price Street site in Birkenhead.
The company has been at the site since 1949, formerly trading as KWK, until the business was taken over by Teledyne Technologies in 2010.
In a statement, the company said: “We are currently going through the consultation process with our employees.
“We wish to reassure all our customers that, whatever the outcome of that review, we will ensure to the best of our ability that there is no disruption to their operations.
“This review does not affect our composites business.
“We trust that our customers and stakeholders understand the need for Teledyne CML Group, like any other business, to undertake such reviews from time to time and we appreciate their patience while we determine the right way forward for our business.”
The firm’s clients include BAE Systems, Airbus, GKN Aerospace and Mecachrome.
A new £1.5m composite factory was opened by Prince Andrew in Bromborough in 2011.
