TyneMet safeguards jobs and top facilities in latest expansion

Students look set to benefit from state of the art facilities and top-notch learning with Tyne Metropolitan College’s latest expansion.

The education and training element of Trade Training Associates (TTA) in Benton has transferred to TMC, a division of Tyneside’s leading college, TyneMet.

Launching August 1st 2013, TMC is the College’s third campus after its Coast Road Campus in Wallsend and the Queen Alexandra Campus in North Shields.

This expansion will ensure the safeguarding of not only staff jobs at TTA, but will provide high-quality training for aspiring construction professionals, as well as generate a skilled future workforce in the North East.

School leavers and students can choose from a variety of construction courses, including bricklaying, plumbing, electro-technical and plastering at various levels. Courses across hair and beauty, automotive and retail with management are also available - all of which are led by industry experts with years of field experience.

With industry standard tools and equipment, students on the Benton campus will learn specialist skills that will equip them for future success in construction and beyond. Unique onsite examination centres ensure that students are tested in a practical environment for optimum training.

Jon Vincent, Principal and Chief Executive, TyneMet College said:

“TyneMet College is committed to looking at the needs of local industry and employers in order to develop specific courses to match industry requirements and overcome skills shortages.

“Adding specialist industry standard construction training to our range of vocational courses will help create more employment opportunities for students.”

Bill Midgley OBE, Chairman of Governors Tyne Metropolitan College and a former Chief Executive of Newcastle Building Society, said:
