Extra cash to develop Stockport primary schools

Stockport Council has successfully bid for over £7million to expand primary schools across the borough.

The Council has won the extra funding from the Government’s Targeted Basic Need Capital scheme. The money will help create capacity for an additional 735 primary school places by September 2015.

The additional funding of £7.2million will allow the Council to expand six primary schools to provide additional places. The nominated schools are:

Arden Primary School - 210 places Cale Green Primary School - 105 places Castle Hill High School (SEN) - 50 places Greave Primary School - 105 places Queen’s Road Primary School - 210 places St Elisabeth’s CE Primary School - 105 places

Councillor Shan Alexander, Stockport Council’s executive member for Lifelong Learning and Achievement, said: “The Council is committed to providing enough primary school places for all pupils across the borough.

“This additional funding will help towards achieving this.”
