Job opportunities created by building of new Royal Liverpool Hospital

Liverpool City Council says that the building of the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital will not only provide a world-class health facility but it will also boost job opportunities in the area.

Carillion Construction Services, the preferred bidder for the construction of the hospital is committed to include job creation equivalent to 750 full-time job opportunities in the project and to employ 60% of the project workforce from the Liverpool City Region.

Liverpool in Work is partnering with Carillion to match local candidates and trainees with employment and training opportunities. They will also work closely with other relevant partners across the city to identify potential candidates for employment and training opportunities.

Councillor Nick Small, cabinet member for skills, enterprise and employment, said: “It is vital that when we have major construction projects in the city that local people benefit and I am pleased that Carillion have given commitments to employ significant number of local workers at the new Royal Hospital.

“In particular, this development, which is great news for Liverpool, will provide opportunities for young people to get into the labour market as youth unemployment remains a great challenge for us.”

Work on the new hospital is due to start in February 2014, Carillion will be recruiting local labour on a regular basis over a three year period.
