Nokia invites young entrepreneurs to contribute towards solving youth unemployment

We recently learnt about this exciting partnership between Nokia and Entrepreneur First (a start-up accelerator for UK graduates), which is actively confronting the issue of youth unemployment.

Besides addressing this important challenge in the UK, Nokia is also doing its part to develop technology innovation amongst recent graduates.

The technology giant has teamed up with this organisation to challenge young graduates to create new products and services that will positively impact youth unemployment.

This task was announced at a recent Nokia Innovation Day, held in London, which invited graduates from some of the UK’s best universities to partner with itself and Entrepreneur First with the aim of sharing ideas around technology and unemployment.

By looking at Nokia’s JobLens app (an innovative job hunting tool intended to make mobile job searches more interactive for graduates) – and the infrastructure behind it – the young entrepreneurs were encouraged to come up with new possibilities that could improve upon this technology.

The event saw mentors from universities and businesses working alongside the youths to turn their ideas into something concrete and doable. Not only does the opportunity give graduates a chance to be a part of creating cutting-edge products, but it also concentrates on developing new concepts for tackling youth unemployment.

And Nokia sees Entrepreneur First as the perfect catalyst for bringing about corporate innovation; by tapping into these diverse graduate groups it hopes that the best possible ideas will come to the fore.

Entrepreneur First is also doing great things to connect its graduates with big organisations, with the end goal of establishing a mutually beneficial relationship between start-ups and corporates like Nokia.

The partnership demonstrates a first of its kind in terms of Nokia teaming up with young entrepreneurs in the UK, and, in doing so, collaborating with various start-ups to stay on the cusp of innovation.

Backing the idea, Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, says, “Government, through initiatives like this, is proud to stand with the UK private sector and its world-class reputation for innovation, business accelerators, and academic institutions to leverage mobile technology that gets people into work and finding better opportunities. This is a laudable example of collaboration designed to help move the UK economy back to full employment.”
