Police and crime commissioner speaks to Hull businesses

Business people in Hull were able to meet and hear a talk from Matthew Grove, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside, on Monday night, and learn about the financial side of policing in the area.

At the event, organised by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the ACCA, attendees met at the De Vere Village hotel to hear a presentation from Matthew covering a range of financial areas around policing. These included the financial history of the police force, hopes for the future and the financial processes behind the transition from police authority to police and crime commissioner (PCC).

He also talked about the PCC’s role and experience so far in the financial management of the force from his initial reaction following his successful election to the role, to his work today on making sure that he is the voice of the people, the ‘and crime’ agenda and the future commissioning of services.

Michael Chappell, MA, MBA, FCMA, CGMA, CIMA Humber Branch Board Member who attended the event said: “It was fascinating to hear Matthew talk about his role as Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside and in particular not only the financial challenges facing the police force today, but also future opportunities.”

Matthew Grove was elected Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside in November 2012. Since taking office Matthew has consulted with the police, the public and with strategic partners to develop his police and crime plan, which was published in March 2013 and sets out the strategy and objectives to reduce crime for the next four years. Matthew has lived and worked in East Yorkshire for the past 24 years, and in that time built up his own successful locally based company which now works on contracts nationwide.
