Special fair to boost seasonal sales

Businesses from across the North East are being given the chance to boost their seasonal sales at a special festive fair.

This December South Shields will be hosting a three-day shopping extravaganza, aimed at helping the region’s businesses to make the most of the annual Christmas rush.

And now, event organisers South Tyneside Council and Groundwork South Tyneside are appealing for companies selling everything from decorations and gifts to accessories and food stuffs, who may wish to take a stall.

Cllr Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader for South Tyneside Council, said; “The area around South Shields market is always extremely busy, particularly around Christmas.

“And we hope that hosting a special three-day fair will not only help businesses to maximise their seasonal sales, but will also introduce consumers to products they may not normally be able to get hold of in the town centre.”

Among those already signed up for the special festive fair is designer Tina Hamilton, owner of the Distinctive Designs Boutique at The Honest Lawyer Hotel, Durham, which sells jewellery, handbags and bespoke shoes decorated with Swarovski crystals.

She said: “Our accessories are ideal for the party season and, while we expect the store in Durham to be busy, the seasonal South Shields market offers us the ideal opportunity to reach a new audience and cater for those who can’t necessarily travel to us. I’m really looking forward to it.”

South Shields Christmas fair will be open from 2pm until 6pm on Friday, December 6, 10am until 5pm on Saturday, December 7 and 10am until 4pm on Sunday, December 8.

It coincides with a variety of other events taking place as part of South Tyneside’s Christmas Wonderland 2013 events programme, including a lights display at St Hilda’s church, which will switched be on from December 6 and the launch of Santa’s Grotto, which will then be open every Saturday during December.

These in turn for part of a much wider programme of seasonal festivities, which start with the main Christmas lights switch on, November 23.

Any businesses interested in taking a stall at the market can download an application form at www.southtyneside.info/christmas.

All forms must be submitted by noon on Thursday, October 31 and places are limited. For more information or queries contact Rebecca Maw at Groundwork on 0191 4281144.
