Five new deals completed at Leeds' historic Joseph's Well
Five new deals have been concluded at the historic Joseph’s Well building, which has undergone a major refurbishment to create high quality and affordable office space in central Leeds.
The transformation of the 156,000 sq ft building in Westgate, which was originally built for Leeds clothing magnate and MP Sir John Barran, has attracted a range of new tenants, including Barnsley College and a firm of London accountants.
The renovation of the five-storey building was undertaken by Leeds-based construction and property company J Pullan & Sons on behalf of a family trust.
The new tenants are: Barnsley College, (2,377 sq ft) of office space; software company Sonocent (829 sq ft), London-based accountants Cox, Costello and Horne (472 sq ft); and web designers Olympic Support (664 sq ft).
In addition, the recruitment company Orchard Agency is expanding at Joseph’s Wells by taking an additional 886 sq ft of office space.
Rents are £15.75 per sq ft, including all service charges, and are fixed for three years.
Zaq Iqbal, the head of the new Leeds office of Cox, Costello and Horne, commented: “I must have looked at over 50 offices in Leeds and Joseph’s Well was head and shoulders above the rest.
“The combination of quality space, the excellent location, on-site parking, competitive rental and the superb boardroom was unbeatable.”
Bruce Strachan, property director of Pullan’s, commented: “The refurbishment was a true labour of love and these five new lettings are a vindication of the work we have done.
“We have owned this iconic 19th century building since pioneering multi-tenanted inclusive rental properties in the 1970s.
“Adding a contemporary feel to a historic building, while retaining the best of its character, has been a challenge we have enjoyed.”
There is currently a range of available office suites from 200 sq ft to 20,000 sq ft.
The joint marketing agents for Joseph’s Well are WSB and the Leeds office of Carter Towler.
