EY takes on extra space to accommodate new graduates

Ernst & Young (EY) in Newcastle has taken on almost 100 university graduates in the last 12 months, ranking it amongst the largest graduate recruiters in town.

To accommodate the new recruits, the firm has taken an extra 4,500 square foot at their base in Citygate on St James Boulevard. EY in Newcastle now employs 313 people occupying 31,000 square foot across four floors.

“The local universities produce an excellent graduate population who are keen to start their career journey in the city that they have come to love,” said EY’s North East senior partner, Mark Hatton.

The rapid growth of EY’s Personal Tax Centre (PTC) in Newcastle, has largely driven the firm’s expansion locally. The PTC provides tax compliance, advisory and other services to some of the UK’s leading financial institutions and to their customers. It counts leading entrepreneurs and Sunday Times Rich List families amongst its client base.

“We have established ourselves as a market leading, personal tax provider here in Newcastle, which has helped fuel our high rate of growth over the last five years,” added Hatton.

“There is much more growth potential for the practice, especially internationally, with demands for our services coming from Europe, Russia the Middle East and the US.”

The foundations of EY’s PTC were established in Newcastle in 1997; since then the team’s growth has been down to building a strong reputation for quality and innovation.

Partner, Trevor Sherlock, who leads the PTC in Newcastle, commented: “Our success is simply down to our people, who provide exceptional client service on a daily basis.

“Our recruitment process is designed so that new joiners have a very clear idea about what it’s like to work with us – they effectively choose us. We build high performing teams and deliver an unrivalled combination of experience and continuity of service to our clients.”
