Quorum Business Park shortlisted for national award

Sustainability achievements at Newcastle’s Quorum Business Park are about to be recognised as it is in the running for a prestigious national business award.

Shortlisted amongst 10 other global brands such as M&S, Virgin Media and Barclays, Quorum will find out if it will be crowned the winner of the ‘corporate citizenship’ category at the National Business Awards held in London next month.

Staff members at Quorum travelled to London to present to the judging panel how it is leading the way with its sustainability strategy and travel plan and how by investing 25% of its total budget in CSR projects it has paid off.

Major innovative projects such as its £60,000 Quorum shuttle bus service, its wildlife group, health and wellbeing programme and members-only Q-Card are just some of the areas Quorum hopes will see it shine above its shortlisted competitors.

Fergus Trim, development director at Quorum Business Park said: “We are a small team but we have achieved a lot and we couldn’t be prouder to have our sustainability strategy and travel plan shortlisted for such a widely recognised national award and see our name up there with the likes of Virgin Money and KPMG.

“We have implemented our corporate citizenship strategy to align ourselves with our occupiers, who are placing an increased importance both on sustainability and staff amenity.

“No other business park has grown at the same rate as Quorum has in the past four years and we believe that our growth wouldn’t have been possible without the investment we have put into our onsite amenities. We have implemented over and above our peers and it is no coincidence that this has attracted 12 new major occupiers over this period.”

Laura McVittie, commuter centre manager at Quorum Business Park said: “We place great importance on corporate citizenship and it is central to our business offering.

“We aim to continually improve the infrastructure and services to attract new tenants and promote this as a key selling point of moving to Quorum and the region.

“Our Hub team was set up in 2008 to create a ‘better place to work’ and attract inward investment and the results are now certainly paying off as public transport use has increased from 19% in 2008 to 38% in 2013, we have an excellent bike to work scheme with over 300 successful cycling events last year alone and our links with the local community are stronger than ever.”

Other onsite amenities, which ensure the business park is leading the way with corporate citizenship include a nursery, a sports centre, an outdoor games area and a BUG (Bicycle User Group). Quorum also launched its own ‘Green Award’ scheme to recognise and award businesses on the park that achieve green success.

Quorum Business Park has already been awarded several accolades for its commitment to sustainability including the National Business in the Community Awards winner in the Ways2Work category, the North East Business Award for Corporate Responsibility in 2012 and achieved Big Tick status in BITC’s Responsible Business Awards 2013.

The National Business Awards is the UK’s premier, cross-industry industry accolades for enterprise excellence. Now entering their 12th year, the National Business Awards connect the nations’ business leaders through its annual ceremony and year-round thought leadership programme to celebrate enterprise excellence. This year the awards will be held at the Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London on 12th November.
