Bedale wine merchant secures major new York restaurant contract
Yorkshire wine merchant Andrew Firth has two reasons to celebrate this week.
The entrenpreneur, who runs his own Bedale-based company Firth & Co, has secured a prestigious contract to supply wine to the new Star Inn The City restaurant in York and has appointed a new senior member of staff.
Firth, the former managing director of Yorkshire wine merchants Playford Ros, has appointed Durham University graduate Ben Barnard as his general manager to cope with the growing demand for Firth & Co’s wines.
“I am absolutely delighted to be supplying wine to such a prestigious and exciting restaurant like the Star Inn The City, the new venture by Andrew Pern and his business partner Justin Brosenitz.
“Andrew is widely acknowledged as one of the finest chefs in the north of England and a pioneer of fine food in the region.
“I have worked with Andrew, supplying wines, ever since he ran the Milburn Arms in Rosedale, before he took over the Star at Harome, and transformed it into the multi-awarding restaurant that it is today.
“I have no doubt that his new venture, the Star Inn The City, will enjoy the same success.”
Andrew Pern commented: “I had no hesitation in choosing Firth & Co as a key supplier for this new venture in York. Andrew’s personal service is unrivalled, while his knowledge and choice of wines from across the world is exemplary.
“I think it is also important to choose local Yorkshire suppliers whenever possible, so Firth & Co fit the bill perfectly. I look forward to continuing our long and happy relationship.”
Firth & Co supply up-market hotels, restaurants and private clients across the north of England, including The Blue Lion in East Witton, The Bay Horse, Hurworth, near Darlington, The Golden Lion, Osmotherley, The Spiced Pear, Hepworth near Huddersfield, La Grillade, Leeds, 1884 Dock Street Kitchen, Hull and The Pipe and Glass near Beverley.
